Turn on Your Power to Fight the Cancer Battle!

"This is my fight song. Take back my life song. Prove I'm alright song. My power's turned on. Starting right now I'll be strong. I'll play my fight song. And I don't really care if nobody else believes' Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me." - Fight Song Rachel Platten

Recently at my daughters choir concert the entire Elementary and Jr. High choirs sang Fight Song in honor of a little girl going to their school who is fighting leukemia. This sweet child was there for the afternoon performance and was able to witness the dedication of the American Cancer Societies theme song in her honor. I felt so privileged and grateful to be a part of that and I couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the healing energy beaming off of the stage toward that sweet girl.

I have no doubt that gesture will aid not only that little one but also her family to fight a little harder and stay a little stronger as she recovers from her illness.

Such a kindness is an example of how something that is non invasive, uplifting and genuine can assist people who are struggling through one of the most difficult illnesses ever suffered by mankind.

As a Reiki practitioner I understand that pain, illness and discomfort in the body are amplified by blocked energetic pathways. The goal of Reiki treatments is to strengthen the flow of energy through these blocked or disturbed pathways, thus decreasing pain and enhancing the body's natural ability to combat illness and heal itself.

For cancer patients, Reiki may be able to help reduce pain associated with the progression of the disease. It can also reduce some of the uncomfortable symptoms patients commonly experience during cancer treatment, such as anxiety, weakness and nausea. Alongside these physical benefits, Reiki can also improve the patient’s emotional health and outlook, which may increase the patient’s ability and willingness to comply with physician’s instructions and adhere to treatment protocols.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner gently touches the patient lightly with both hands in specific hand positions or holds his or her hands slightly above the patient. Reiki sessions typically last for approximately one hour.

The treatment is completely non-invasive and requires no tissue manipulation or painful pressure. Because Reiki is a non-invasive technique that causes no side effects or complications, it can be performed on cancer patients at virtually any time following their diagnosis. Whether the patient is newly diagnosed and waiting to begin treatment, is actively undergoing treatment or is in the late stages of cancer and facing a poor prognosis, Reiki sessions may be beneficial.

Reiki is also effective at reducing anxiety and inducing relaxation and balance among patients who are in remission after completing cancer treatments.

However, in spite of its many benefits, it is important to note that Reiki is not a substitute for traditional cancer treatments. Although studies and anecdotal evidence indicate that Reiki can increase patient comfort levels and enhance healing, it has not been scientifically shown to effectively treat cancer on its own. Thus, patients should view Reiki as one part of a comprehensive cancer treatment plan.

Having been touched by cancer through family and friends I find it an honor to be a part of the healing and treatment process of those strong spirits fighting this disease. Let me help you turn your power on and allow your body to fulfill its maximum potential of healing through Reiki!
